Jeremy Allen and Cassandra Ross have been arrested and facing charges for stabbing a teenager outside Woolworths in Balmain.
The 16-year-old boy was leaving Woolworths with his 14-year-old brother when he was approached by the accused for a cigarette lighter. The accused and the victim had an altercation before the man stabbed the teenager in the abdomen and left with his partner.
The accused is charged with grievous bodily harm with intent to murder, reckless grievous bodily harm, and reckless wounding. He applied for bail on the grounds that he acted in self-defence, which was refused in Parramatta Court. He remains in custody till his next hearing date before the Central Local Court.
His girlfriend, Cassandra Ross, was charged with concealing a serious indictable offence. She did not apply for bail and remains behind bars.
“I just want to go home,” she sobbed in court.
Acting Superintendent Anthony Bell told ABC News that the attack left the teen and his family traumatised and the residents shaken.
“We’ve got a teenager here who by all accounts was just attending the local supermarket, departing with his friend and was approached in what was a swift and unprovoked attack,” he said.
The boy was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and underwent surgery. He is now in a serious but stable condition.
On Friday, the teenager’s mother told 9NEWS she was “very very very happy” about the arrests, and how quickly they were made.
